Career opportunities are based on your academic progress or your work experience:
Students can do an internship to gain insight into our company and our way of working. Especially for students in the MBA course, we offer our Summer Associate Program after the first MBA year. It takes place in one of our offices worldwide and lasts two to three months.
We offer university graduates the opportunity to join us as Analyst or Junior Consultant. If you have a Ph.D. or a second degree or have already gained professional experience, entry at a higher career level is possible. After completing an MBA at a prestigious business school, you'll start as a Senior Consultant. Also, applicants with professional experience in industry and/or consulting are very welcome at Roland Berger. The position you start at greatly depends on your particular background.
Apart from excellent high school and university grades, we value challenging practical experience very much, as well as time spent studying abroad or internships. In most countries we expect a very good level of the local language and excellent English skills. You should have a winning personality and strong analytical and conceptual skills, as well as contribute creativity, teamwork and communication skills.
Of course not: 50% of our consultants have degrees in engineering, natural sciences, social sciences or humanities – which is great. This diversity enables us to build our successful interdisciplinary project teams. Across all fields, our employees have one thing in common: they contribute their interest for business and are true entrepreneurs at heart.
Every new employee around the world learns how we work and is trained in our methods at a two-week introductory seminar. If you do not have a business degree, we also make you familiar with training in business basics. On your first few projects, experienced colleagues will assist you in learning the ropes and will give you valuable tips. Numerous internal and external seminars will bring you up to speed for project tasks and the next stages of your career.
Our extensive program of seminars on management topics and techniques as well as social, personal and leadership skills will promote your personal development. In addition, we support you with our MBA program at a prestigious business school. As part of our international exchange programs, you can move to one of our offices worldwide for six months to two years.
Roland Berger helps you reconcile your professional ambitions and private life. With a sabbatical, we enable you to take a break from everyday consulting: you can take one to six months – just for yourself, your family and friends – to learn something new or to fulfill a lifelong dream. We find custom-made solutions for you – be it a sabbatical or a flexible work schedule.
There is no such thing as the typical project. Our projects are based on client needs and the particular task to be solved. Therefore, a project can take a few weeks or even a year. This also applies to the size of a team: There are projects that are handled by one to three consultants. And large projects where more than 20 are necessary.
Roland Berger offers many opportunities to contribute to international projects. This includes projects where you work with our clients abroad: currently, over 75% of our work is international. Moreover, with our transfer programs, you can move to and work at one of our worldwide offices for periods of one to five years.
On our Selection Day you'll be taken through several different modules – including personal and technical interviews and discussion of case examples from our consulting practice. We want to get to know you as a person and find out how structured and analytically you approach a task; whether you can contribute your creative talent and if you have a feeling for figures.
If your application is not successful, it often means that your practical experience or activities abroad are not yet sufficient for you to start as an intern or consultant. Of course, you can re-apply. When we receive your repeated application, we will then check whether you have in the meantime expanded your qualifications. Your chances of receiving an invitation to Recruiting Day increase if you have completed a semester abroad, have done another internship or gained professional experience since your last application.
